Cloth & Paper Arts - Connie Warshall, Fiber Artist
Art quilters create their own designs and do not use patterns the way traditional quilters do; the result is that they generally do not get the respect they deserve. Nevertheless, Warshall, art quilting since 2003, has been honored for her work, winning several regional and state awards. Perhaps her most interesting piece, Identity Theft was made from over 500 garment labels illustrating how our identity can be stolen by commercial consumption and brand names. The quilt not only won “Best of Show” at the Manito Art Show, it actually sold! On a smaller scale, Warshall’s work includes needle and wet-felted projects, fiber art and handmade paper greeting cards, and needle-felted embellishments on clothing. Much of her work represents her love of nature and her efforts to protect the environment. More about Connie and her husband Ron is available at www.rttrees.net/.
