Chintana Haas Pottery - Chintana Haas, Potter
Contemporary Forms with Traditional Thai Artistic Sensibility

Surrounded by traditional Thai art including functional pottery used for everyday tasks like storing rainwater or cooking rice, Haas developed an artistic sensibility as a child. Today her functional pottery uses contemporary forms but reflects the clear, graceful lines and deep, satisfying glazes of the pottery of her childhood. Haas's vases and sculptured pieces express a different aspect of her roots. Thai art - flower arranging for example - often disassembles natural forms and reassembles them in playful, artificial ones. This same approach may be seen in her small vases with their charmingly distorted shapes and in her multiple, connected bowls. Such pieces can are not only functionally useful but also please the eye and promote comments when used.
